DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ELBWO
ELBWO has
been working with women since its inception in 1979.
It has gone from strength to strength in dealing with issues which affects
black families in the borough of Newham with the aim of supporting
personal development.
We strongly believe that women are entitled to live in a society which
sees all violence against women and children as a crime, without regard to
the victim's race, sexuality, disability, age. class, livelihood,
citizenship status, relationship with the perpetrator, or whether such
violence takes place within or outside the home.
The issues relating to domestic violence is part of the varied work
carried out by staff at the ELBWO Centre.
This work has been acknowledged by Newham Social Service who have proposed
a working partnership with ELBWO in conjunction with Newham Asian Women's
Project, the police and the Health Authority.
Through positive action the partnership established, aims to progressively
break down the barriers many women face.
Our aim is to empower them to participate fully within the local community
and have equal access to services which are of benefit to them.
