The Big Benefit

Fundraising remains high on the list of priorities for ELBWO.  In 2004, we rocked the Theatre Royal Stratford East with a magnificent Gala, not seen in this part of London - another pioneering event.  We were graced with many celebrated artistes, as well as local talents where they performed to a filled theatre, magnificently compeered by the delightful Tameka Emposon from the famed BBC programme 'Three non Blondes', and most recently the 'Big Life'.  Amongst others were Shirley Thompson, composer, the legendary Benjamin Zephaniah, Angie Le Mar, and Jocelyn Jee Esien and not forgetting Shola Ama and Janet Kay who enthralled the audience with their hits.

Looking to the Future

After the tragic loss of our Centre to a gas explosion, our number one priority is to rebuild at the earliest opportunity.  We are committed to moving forward and are optimistic,  about some of the exciting opportunities which lie ahead.

Star Pupils: Talented Saturday School Students Shine Bright

Two students of ELBWO's Saturday School worked hard to achieve magnificent results for their GCSE's.  Beverly Akom and Natalie Nkansha started the Saturday School in Year 5 and were able to benefit from the tutoring of our skilled teachers especially, according to Beverley, the support of Eva Dalgety who co-ordinates the school, and teaches science and maths.  "Eva helped tremendously," said Beverley, "for science I was predicted a grade C, but went on to achieve an A."  Beverley's exceedingly good grades included 4As, and 6Bs, she enjoys maths and science.  Natalie who also attended the Saturday School gained 2A*s, 4As, and 6Bs.  Natalie told us that the Saturday School enabled her to gain confidence and helped her to achieve her potential.  Both Beverley and Natalie returned as volunteers working alongside the teachers in the Saturday School.  They are continuing their studies with the hope of successfully attaining their A levels and then going on to University.  The Saturday School welcomes the contribution these two young students are making to the project.
